Barnwell County Memorial Cemetery

The Barnwell County Memorial Cemetery, located at 11907 Hwy 278, Barnwell, SC 29812, was established in 1952 as a place to relocate gravesites that were removed from the former Ellenton, Dunbarton, Meyers Mill, Hawthorne, Leigh, and Robbins Communities which were displaced when the Savannah River Site assumed the land to build their facilities.  Not all of the gravesites from Savannah River Site communities are here in our cemetery. The Savannah River Site Museum has a cemetery database where you can find relocated gravesites of displaced residents.

The Barnwell County Memorial Cemetery is located just outside the city limits of the City of Barnwell, and near the Barnwell County Regional Airport, the Memorial Cemetery serves as a peaceful and respectful resting place for loved ones. The Memorial Cemetery is owned and maintained by Barnwell County, and is the only County-owned cemetery in South Carolina.

In an effort to ensure the Barnwell County Memorial Cemetery continues to be well-maintained and a respectful place for all who visit and those laid to rest here, Barnwell County Council passed Ordinance 2022-05-389 on May 10, 2022. Full enforcement of the ordinance began October 19, 2022. Click Here to view the Barnwell County Memorial Cemetery Ordinance
